Why should I Maintain my Pavement?

Assuming that the initial asphalt pavement was designed and constructed properly, the primary cause of failure is the penetration of water into the asphalt base.  Oxidation of the pavement surface begins this process which causes the asphalt to dry and become brittle.  This oxidation leads to the erosion of the top layer of fine particles and the appearance of larger stones and small cracks on the surface.  If left untreated, these cracks grow over time and eventually allow water to penetrate to the base of the pavement. When water enters the base of the pavement, the base material moves and settles leading to further cracking and an "alligator appearance."  When the pavement reaches this stage the only option is removal and replacement of the old asphalt.

		Infrared Patching will repair potholes, sunken utility cuts, depressions/poor water drainage, high spots, cracks, alligator areas, catch basins, oil spots and pavement decoration. The program is intended for repair of existing localized pavement distresses not caused by inadequate pavement thickness, weak sub grade, and poor quality of materials in adjacent areas and/or improper drainage of the pavement components.
		Saw-Cut, Remove and Replace is an effective way of removing failed or damaged asphalt and replace it with new asphalt mix.
		What is Crack Sealing? Cracks are filled with a rubberized hot filler. This is applied using a Cimline kettle. Cracks are slightly overfilled to allow for shrinkage.   What does it do? Fills cracks creating a water proofing. Expands and contracts with the crack to maintain sealing in all seasons and under traffic.
		Seal coat restores the asphalt to its original state.  Seal coat fills the small hairline cracks and seals them from water. By sealing the asphalt, it is rejuvenated and restored to its original integrity if done on a regular basis.
